Oh, those awkward hands! It can always feels so weird to know what to do with them in photos! Here are a few tips for posing your hands so you’ll feel a little more natural at your next shoot!
Lightly grabbing onto a signature piece of jewelry, jacket, or dress gives your hands something to do, while still looking natural. You can see in the image below how Jenna is very softly holing her velvet dress and it gives a carefree look as if she was caught in a free spirited moment when the camera wasn’t even there.
It comes off as confident. It’s a power pose, and gives the feel that you are an expert and you know your stuff!
Because you most likely got your nails manicured for the shoot, this is a terrific way to show them off. I tell clients to imagine their fingers are feathers. That way we get very soft, bent fingers on your chin or cheek and it’s a pleasing look.
Whether it’s a hair “zshuz” or fingering the ends, it always looks so natural and playful!
For example, holding a pen, glasses, iPhone or coffee cup, just for starters!
