It was August of 2018 and as I perused our local magazine that arrived in the mail that day, I stopped in fascination as I read an article about some local entrepreneurs. As an entrepreneur myself, I’m always interested in what other women business owners are doing. This was a story about two husband and wife teams and how their businesses connected and collaborated. But, even more interesting, was what these teams did. One of the couples sold planners (if you followed me for any length of time, you know planners are my jam!) and the other couple had a business called Printable Wisdom, where they sold hand lettering resources and prints. It was about that time that my interest in hand lettering had peaked, so I was very curious! I have to admit, I followed them on Instagram and fan girled! I thought it would be awesome to do a brand photo shoot for them.
Fast forward a year and I received an inquiry from a local woman named Ashley Gardner, who was close to opening her psychiatry practice and needed branding photos. I was thrilled that she contacted me, but hadn’t made the connection yet. It wasn’t until our Zoom call that I realized I was talking to the PRINTABLE WISDOM Ashley Gardner! I had so admired her work online, and was ecstatic to talk to her in person and take branding photos for her new venture!
A few weeks later I came to check out the lighting in her new office. Not only is she an amazing hand-letterer, but her sense of style is mind blowing! Ashley has so many talents! Her office is a brand new build, conveniently located at a busy Wylie intersection. From the first impression as clients drive up, to the therapy room, not a detail is left untouched. The welcoming magnolia wreath on the front door beckons one to come into a cozy waiting area filled with a snack and drink bar.
Instead of having to check in with a receptionist, clients push a button to alert Ashley of their arrival and then wait in comfort for their appointment. Once they leave the waiting room, the next room is also warmly decorated with a comfortable leather couch, beautiful decor, and soft light. This is not your typical medical experience in any way. I can see how clients will feel completely relaxed and comfortable when they visit Dr. Gardner.
In addition to shooting office details and mock clients, we also personalized Dr. Gardner’s session by photographing in downtown Wylie. Both Ashley and her husband grew up here. In fact, we also photographed them at her parents’ land, which boasts an old time wooden wagon that belonged to her family. Years ago her great-grandfather came from Germany to this area to farm the land! Her dad remembers wearing knee pads and planting rows and rows of onions! He also remembers the pecan tree that we photographed the couple under being as large as it is today as when he was a child! For someone who loves American history as much as I do, this was another fascinating twist to Ashley’s story!
With DFW brand photo shoots, the sky is the limit! So, in addition to Ashley’s brand photos, we also took some Linked In headshots for her husband who works at Elm Creek Environmental.
I hope you enjoy Ashton and Daniel’s shoot as much as I did!

You’ve captured this perfectly Kelly. After reading your post and then checking the pics there was immediate harmony between what she wanted to achieve and what you captured!! What a great session.
Thanks, Mandy! Preparing a vision board ahead of time based on our video call and answers to their branding questionnaire helps me capture the essence of their business!
I love branding photography. You got such great variety here! Love this!
Thank you so much! That’s why I love branding vs. typical headshots. We can incorporate so many details of their lives!

[…] In this module of the online business course, Katelyn walked us through very specific details of how she is constantly thinking of how to pair curated photos for her blog posts and website portfolio. During the wedding day, she has the complete “color story” in mind as she shoots details and then pulls back to photograph scenes with a lot of white space. She shared all her secrets about how to plan for the blog, how to pair photos together (including clean edges and leading lines), and how to let go emotionally of photos that don’t carry as much impact for someone who was not there to witness the moment. She went back to her old work and showed us things she would change. Then she went over photos in her current scrolling gallery. As a bonus, she critiqued a website from a super talented couple in the business class. Here’s an example of two photos that don’t compete with each other looks.
