One Small Tweek for Better Photos on Cloudy Days | Dallas Personal Branding Photographer

What if only ONE small adjustment could turn the pictures you take in cloudy weather from drab to fab?

Maybe you’ve been told that taking pictures on cloudy days is the best, but then you look at yours and the photos are dull and drab, there are dark circles around the subject’s eyes, the skin tones look gray, and sometimes the faces even look shiny.

Have no fear! I have been there and had trouble myself until I learned this one small adjustment that changed my pictures drastically and gave me the confidence to shoot on cloudy days!

Take Better Pictures on Cloudy Days | Kelly McMullin Photography

Turn your subject to face where the sun would be!

Sometimes this is easier said than done because it is so cloudy you can’t even figure out where the sun is hiding. But, you should know the general direction, and you want your subject to face it. That way, the light, however little there is, will brighten their eyes, and the eyes are what you want the focus on!  If it’s hardly cloudy at all, and the sun is is actually too bright, than this tip may backfire! We certainly don’t want our subject’s squinting, so if that’s the case, turn them away from the sun.

Bonus cloudy day tip:

If you can reflect light back into your subject’s eyes by placing them on a white or bright surface, or by using a reflector of some sort (natural or artificial), then you will see their faces and eyes brighten up! I know some photographer’s who wear white clothing and others who have even used their white cars as giant reflectors! Whatever works!

I explain these tips and show how they work in the video below! Leave me a comment if this has been helpful or if you have photography questions I can answer!
